JANUARY - FEBRUARY 2012
Happy New Year!
We will have no school on Mon., Jan. 16 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. If
we have snow, ice, or cold we follow the closing schedule of the Lafayette
School Corporation (LSC). If there is a delay, however, we operate on our
full schedule. We do not close if the LSC kindergarten or preschool is
closed only the whole corporation. If you have any questions please call the
Readiness 447-2204, Mrs. English, 447-4221 or 426-0649 or Mrs. Black,
474-6435 or 491-2329.
Christmas was a timely reminder of the many blessings we have to celebrate.
Our times together at school were happy and fun filled thanks to the
generous contributions of many of you. The teachers and students are all
appreciative of the gifts and goodies. Thanks. While we were very
appreciative of our gifts a few presents didn’t have names for us to know
who they were from or to who to send thank-yous to, so thank-you to anyone
that didn’t receive a written thank-you.
After the extended Holiday, we are back in school and can now look forward
to a new year filled with fresh beginnings for everyone. We are excited as
we anticipate new growth and shared days.
Show and Tell will be held on Thursday, January 5th and Friday, January 6th
of this week. Again we remind you to have the children bring toys that they
can safely carry down the stairs alone. If you miss show and tell because of
the snow or illness please bring it in on another day.
January 9th-20th will be a fun unit as we focus on OUR FIVE SENSES. We will
identify each sense and try to discover what kind of information it
provides. We will write Aa, Bb, Cc and Dd during these two weeks.
January 23rd -February 3rd will be a good time to study the MUSIC MAKERS. We
will introduce the children to the different families of instruments and
work on sight and sound discrimination. If any of you play an instrument, we
would love
to have you share some time and talent with us. Please come and share your
instrument in our classroom. The letters we will write are Ee and Ff. We
also will be working on the months of the year. Thursday, February 2nd and
Friday, February 3rd will be show and tell.
We will begin reviewing the alphabet letters and sounds, as well as
introducing the older children to lined paper. We only write on lined paper
in the MWF classes. As each letter is introduced, we will review the sound
the letter makes and the correct way to form the upper and lower case of
that letter.
We will begin taking registration forms for the next school year. If you are
planning to be in our program next year or friends and/or family are
planning to be new students please download forms at
www.GraceReadiness.org. If
you have friends or family that wish to come this year or next year, please
have them call as soon as possible because classes do fill up. If your plans
change over the summer please let us know to be fair to other people on our
list. Parents and students from the past and present are our only
advertisements. Please encourage your neighbors or friends to check us out
with a visit or a call. We need to be full next year for our budget. We had
a great year this year. We have spaces for next year (all classes) or this
semester (only T-T AM ). Grace Church also has a Daycare located in this
building that your family can use for daycare before, after, or full time
for children ages 3-5 for very reasonable fees.
We hope the New Year promises many good things ahead for all of your
families and ours. Thank-you for the Kleenex. Thank you for the many things
for the classroom. If you have toys that you don’t use any more that are
appropriate for the classroom please consider us as a place to donate.
We will be doing a Reach for the Stars Reading Program in January. Watch for
more details. It is a program to encourage reading. We have never done it
before and would encourage your feedback.
Looking forward to a great year.
Sincerely,
Mrs. English
